Veterans Memorial Golf Course captures the true essence of Southeastern Washington Golf. Players are treated to an ever-changing landscape over 18 holes, each with its own individual character and spectacular view.  This course is part of the Veterans Memorial Park, Walla Walla’s living memorial to the veterans of all wars. Course was designed by Francis L. “Frank” James (1878 – 1952) and opened for play in 1948.  Frank James was a prolific and well respected golf course designer and builder in the Pacific Northwest. Born in England in 1878, he emigrated to America in 1910.
He learned golf course design under William H. Tucker, a noted golf architect in New York, and became Tucker’s field representative in the Northwest. James’s Northwest golf courses include Kitsap CC (1924), Linden G&CC (1926), Sand Point CC (1927), Peace Portal GC (1928), Jackson Park GC (1930), University of Idaho GC (1937), and many others including Longview CC which hosted the PNHC in 2021.  You can learn more about Frank James at https://www.golfpass.com/travel-advisor/architects/1085-frank-james/
Wine Valley GC is a stunning Dan Hixson design that unfolds on a grand scale, playing over rolling hills in the shadow of the Blue Mountains. Each hole affords multiple lines of play, ensuring a pleasant round for every golfer and a true challenge for those who seek it.  (JQ Notes:  Wine Valley is the eastern WA counter-part to Chambers Bay or Gamble Sands.)  Dan Hixson is a highly-regarded golf course architect currently active in the PNW.  He has designed several resort courses, including Bandon Crossings on the Oregon Coast.  You can learn more about Dan Hixson at https://www.golfpass.com/travel-advisor/architects/3433-dan-hixson/

Martin Pool and John Quickstad are organizing a few days of golf prior to the WSHC that will take us east from Wildhorse GC in Pendleton to the inaugural Spud Cup at River Birch GC in Star, ID (north side of Boise) hosted by Tom and Sue Tracy.  We will then travel back to Walla Walla for the WSHC, playing some more golf on the way. Then more golf at Mt. Adams GC in Toppenish, WA on the way home on Tuesday.  Please email Martin and John if you are interested in joining us ([email protected][email protected]).
