Host Seth Williams, author of Modern Hickory Golf: Rediscovering the Essence of the Game, invites you to pull on your favorite sweater, grab your favorite hickories, and come on out for some casual autumn golf at Lake Cushman Golf Course, nestled between the Olympic Mountains and Hood Canal.
The Autumn Sweater Hickory Scramble is intended to be just what the name suggests—a relaxed and friendly fall outing. Four-person teams will compete in an 18-hole scramble, making this an ideal event for experienced hickory players and newcomers alike.
Never played hickory golf, but have been curious about the possibility? Now is your chance to pick up some sticks and swing away! Playsets will be provided for newcomers wanting to take the plunge. The scramble format offers a particularly easy and enjoyable introduction to playing the game with the traditional equipment used 100 years ago.
And because every competition needs a little something worth playing for, the winning foursome will receive a gift certificate to Hoodsport’s Model T Pub & Eatery, locally known for its roasted chicken, burgers, and other pub fare.
Following play, everyone is invited to gather informally at the Model T, just a few minutes down the hill, for food, refreshments, stories, justifiable excuses, and other outright lies. Food and beverages will be on your own—unless, of course, you win.
This is autumn golf in the Pacific Northwest, so sweaters are encouraged and a little weather should be expected. The event will be played rain or shine, barring course closure due to an atmospheric river or other dire deluge.
The cost is $40 for the golf, including range balls on the grass driving range. $10 covers the competition. All payable the day of. The course is an easy, enjoyable walk, but power carts are available. The Lake Cushman water system was just voted best tasting water in Washington state!
